What can I expect during my regular dental visit?
You’ve booked your first routine dental appointment at Creekside Center for Comprehensive Dentistry of Vacaville, California, and now you are curious about what you can expect when you arrive. Drs. Shirin Hamed and Reza Moezi understand that visiting a new dental office for care might make patients anxious, but knowing what will happen during your appointment will help put most at ease!
What happens during a regular dentist check-up?
At your first visit with Drs. Hamed and Moezi, we start in the waiting room. Our friendly front office team will welcome you to the office and provide you with paperwork to complete. This paperwork will review your medical and dental history to get a good idea of what our team will need to evaluate and treat. You are then taken back to your room, and our dental team will take a series of dental x-rays to assess the teeth and jawbone.
We start with a dental cleaning, referred to as prophylaxis or a “prophy,” during which our hygienists will thoroughly remove plaque, tartar, and even hardened calculus from the surfaces of the teeth and gums. They may also make note of any concerns seen when cleaning and polishing the teeth. They can educate you on maintaining oral hygiene with home care, including brushing and flossing.
Then, our dentists will evaluate your teeth and gums to determine if any problems require assistance, such as signs of periodontal disease or tooth decay. Both can impact the smile significantly, and with early detection and diagnosis, many patients can treat these issues with minimal cost and invasiveness. Patients who have periodontal disease may be advised to consider deep teeth cleaning, called scaling and root planing, later to bring the smile back to health.
Once your cleaning and evaluation is complete, you can either schedule an appointment for further assistance with your smile or book your next cleaning and exam for three to six months. Most patients can visit Drs. Hamed and Moezi twice a year to maintain a healthy smile while caring for the teeth and gums at home as directed by our team.
